Our veterinarians and certified technicians are dedicated to the health of your pet and welcome you to meet with us regarding the care and wellness of them. We offer programs on vaccinations, spaying, neutering, declawing, and dental cleaning. Now accepting new patients, we have Saturday hours and welcome early morning drop-offs and evening appointments
Dr. Martha Gearhart, DVM, DABVP, CVA

Dr. Gearhart received her DVM degree from the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell in 1979 and her B.A. from Bryn Mawr College in 1975. She has practiced in the Hudson Valley since 1982 and, as sole owner, has been the Medical Director for Pleasant Valley Animal Hospital since 1999. In 1985, she qualified as a Diplomate by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, and since her specialty certification, she has limited her clinical work to companion animals, including ferrets, pocket pets, and rabbits as well as dogs and cats.Her special interests include geriatrics, feline medicine, cancer therapy, infectious diseases, dentistry, and nutrition. In 2003, she became certified in veterinary acupuncture by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society and is a member of the American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture and the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association. In addition, she is a long-standing member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners, American Animal Hospital Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, and New York State Veterinary Medical Society.
In addition to her clinical work, she has published widely on a variety of animal health subjects for many publications including Cats, Dog World, and refereed veterinary journals. In 1988, Dr. Gearhart was selected by the American Veterinary Medical Association to be the first recipient of a Congressional Science and Engineering Fellowship in Washington, D.C. in affiliation with the American Association for the Advancement of Science, where she worked as a technical advisor to Senator Kent Conrad on the 1990 Farm Bill.
Dr. Gearhart has also served as a consultant to Pfizer Animal Health, Inc. from 1996 until 2000, while continuing to work on animal health and welfare issues in the policy arena. Since 1998, Dr. Gearhart has directly provided or organized Ask The Doctor services at the Dutchess County Cat Show in Poughkeepsie as well as at the Canine Tent at the Dutchess County Fair. These events are a natural extension of her work with the Dutchess County SPCA and Mid Hudson Animal Aid. In 1997, the New York State Veterinary Medical Society granted Dr. Gearhart a Merit Award in recognition of her work and service to the profession.
Meet Our Staff
Mary Lictro, Practice Manager- Mary has been with our hospital since December of 2006. She began as a part time receptionist and worked her way up. She had preiviously worked for a Veterinarian in Brooklyn for several years.
Sueann Camburn, Clinic Supervisor. Sueann is our most senior staff member servicing our patients and clients since 2000. She oversees the day to day operation of the clinic and is also our resident groomer.
Tina Porter, Kennel Manager- Tina has been with this hospital since 2009. She oversees the day to day operations of our kennel and is valuable member of our staff.
Lyrica Clarke and Barb Reimuth are part of our valuable front desk team and have worked at other veterinary hospitals.
Tanya Martin and Renee Costello round out our valuable team and fill in where needed to handle additional patient care.
